Lowering springs - am I missing something here.

So I have the original shocks and springs for my tin top. I also have some lowering springs which are meant to be for a mk1 golf.

The lowering springs are much heavier duty steel than the originals but they are significantly shorter.  No idea what drop they are meant to give but looks a lot.

So I get the originals will compress a lot more also but I am not sure this is going to work.

Need to take the coil overs off anyway so will fit one of these set ups. May be a trial fit of one lowered set on on side of the front and standard set on the other.  Drop it back on the floor and look at the difference. Upside is I will only have to strip the front corners a total of 3 times not 4.

Anyhow what do you think before I put my half baked plan into action.

There is no way those springs are for a mk1 Golf, they are so short that the dampers will be almost fully compressed and sitting on the bump stops before you even go the weight of the car on them.

I thought that just making sure I am not going nuts. I haven’t changed springs for about 20 years.

I just built up a set of standard dampers with Eibach lowering springs. They lower aprox 30mm I think and when  putting them together I could 'just' get the top mounts on without using spring compressors.

You wouldn't get a real idea of how the car will sit unless you did all 4 corners anyway and let it settle

Even if they were mk1 springs I wouldn't recommend fitting lowering springs onto standard shocks anyway

It'll handle horribly and then the shocks will probably give up and leak soon after fitting
