Cleaning surface rust underneath golf
I've got my Mk1 golf on her side and at a point now (after some welding etc) to start cleaning off underside, etch priming, stonechipping and body colour prior to refitting tank, back axle and fuel/brake lines
Is a bead or sand blaster best as I'm going to buy one - obviously not an industrial sized one but one good enough to clean off surface rust and gives a good clean base etc but don't want to get one that dessimates the underside.
Any advice greatly received
Guess my budget is around £150

I got given a air powered sand blaster years ago and as I already had a decent compressor I gave it a go on the engine bay.
The sand gets everywhere, I bet that I spent just as long getting sand out of all the crevices as it took to blast, primer and paint it
I had to get all the waxoyl off first though as the sand blaster wouldn't touch it
This was a good 3/4 years ago,now and I still haven't put that car back together, must try harder

I went mental in lidl when they were selling air tools as I already had a half decent compressor.
Their bead blasting gun didnt do a bad job at all and depending on the bead size you use the clean up job isnt as bad as sand either
Pretty sure the gun was less than £20 and came with bead in various sizes

Oh, there are folks that do dry-ice blasting….
No clean up…. fairly cost effective.
I have seen the after and it was amazing.
