1976 a vintage year

I am sure there are many points in 1976 that are highly ranked but 2 I would like to remind us of. 1st and most importantly it was the start of the GTI on general release which I am sure I don't have to tell you. But did you also know it was the same year a small electronics company started. They are called Apple. Not too bad a company to be sharing a point in history with.  

Now if any of the powers of the club read this what about this idea. (I know it's a long way off) but what about taking the AGM on tour in either 2024 or 2026 to Germany and ask VW to host us at one of their sites. I am sure their marketing department would get a good opportunity to do something on this. As my Nan used to tell me. If you don't ask you don't get !!!

It is an interesting idea to be fair but will VW give it factory support? 🤔
I doubt it very much.

Yes VW UK 🇬🇧 gave us a Golf 7R to play with this year but Germany has a number of great clubs very loyal to VW. Think about it. 🤔

We are not top gear or the grand tour but having said that I do see a small opportunity if it's done right but it's still going to cost us a fortune!

For example.
All if not most of you have heard of the 'GTI Treffer Wörtersee' I hope.

That's a festival held in western Austria 🇦🇹 by a lake in May each year.
I've been there twice and had an unofficial road trip in 2015.

However in this post I don't have time to explain it in any detail but over the official 3 days the attendees topped 300,000 this year.

It's the biggest gathering of VW nutters in the world, so much so in 2015 VW made it the launch of the the latest version of the Golf 7 GTI worldwide. I know because I was there!

So I'm thinking what about doing something for it's 50th?
Can't get better than that can it?
Yeah well I must agree the 100th tops it but I'm for sure not going to be a round for the one! 😂

Do Google it because it's unbelievable and I could see VW UK 🇬🇧 and or Germany 🇩🇪 helping us out a bit with sponsorship.

But for us to ask VW Germany 🇩🇪 to sponsor a Golf Mk1 Owners Club in the UK 🇬🇧 for us to play in their home sand bunker? 🤔
 Well I'd say we've got about as much chance as a giraffe wearing sunglasses trying to get into a Polar Bears only Golf Club! 😉

I saw what VW spends on this event and it's serious money with full factory support. Their stand is huge, there come with at least four car transporters and a pro team of 40 plus staff.

So what's an extra 10k or 20k in support if we can supply XXX Mk1's as a classic show piece on its 50th annerversary! 😉

As I hope you can appreciate from these poor photos the VW stand is indeed massive. 👍🏼

The last two are of a granite sculpture of a Mk2 GTI which is permanently displayed in the town and was commissioned by the Mayor some years ago. It is a single piece and weighes over 2 ton! 😉

Wow never knew it existed. I like the idea of being guests or visitors their. If nothing else it will be a good run for the old 1.6 from Birmingham. I'll pack a toolbox and a polar bear suit

I should add that these photos above are taken two days before the official event starts.

Think 🤔 about it 300,000 VW fans showing off their cars and oh look how big my exhaust is, stero etc…

Total madness but with factory support! 😉

And yes there are a lot of standard Mk1's of Mk1. 👍🏼
