Testing The Water

I'm getting round to the idea that my 1984 Golf cabriolet may have to be sold soon. I've kept it on the road all year and have done 3000 miles in it and don't feel like I'm getting the full use out of it.

I'm gonna pitch in around the ?4000 mark and see if I get any takers.

For those of you that don't know it, have a look at the North West Region page and its on there.

Description wise….

1984 Mars Red Golf Cabriolet, 155,000 miles, lots of history
New (in January 2007) suspension all round including bushes, wishbones and brakes. INCLUDING - a 16v master cylinder upgrade.
4 x new Toyo tyres
Tinted green windows all round.
Re-sprayed with new wings.
Chrome grille surround
(Audio to be negotiated!)

Interior wise - its bone dry and that is a BIG plus on these cars. It had a new inner headlining and the padding was repaired in 2003. Its clean and hasn't been smoked in by myself (although previous owners have done). The seats have been rebuilt and re covered as required and are comfortable to sit on for long distances.
The dashboard and interior plastics are BROWN and are all present and correct. Little damage to anything, other than the usual cracking on the door tops. The carpet is clean but slight marked (again DRY).
The MFA and ALL electric inside the car are A1 and working as they should.

Exterior wise - as said its been re-sprayed and the alloys are refurbished and in good condition. The window rubbers ares howing signs of aging in places but thats just the age. They are all in place and work well.

On the down side, if I was to keep it I get the rear sill touched up as the paint is beginning to bubble and the nearside of the hood has ripped a little. I may consider a new outer skin but it isn't letting water in so I'd be tempted to leave it be for a while. The gearstick bush, the one under the stick itself could do with replacing as sometimes the selection is a bit stiff.
Thats it really. A service wouldn't go a miss either.

The car has quite a lot of history. Original supplying dealer service book with stamps. Handbook and Cabriolet supplement and a host of bills etc that I've kept over the 6 years that I've run the car.

If you are looking for a 'Show Winning' Car' (Top 10 at VW Woodstock, Gaydon 04, Dubfreeze 05 & second place 06) that is all but finished and is in great condition for the year, with little to do on it to get to top spec again then you could go a lot further than have a look at this. Over the past 6 years I have probably spent ?8,500 on it and its a lot better than when I bought it. The hard work is done on it, the niggles have been ironed out and its as reliable as when it came off the production line.

So if you fancy a look then I'll be at Billing, possibly for the last time with this car and may be walking home!!!! I'm not desperate to sell up, it just that I'm not using it as much as I should be.

PM me if you are interested.

ta, Dan

Ah yes!!!!

Those were the days when you could prep up and be assurred of a dry car with the hood down all day!!!

I do remember that the banner nearly blew away as we were doing the presentations!!!

That T-shirt is now a polishing cloth!!!!!

I might have to get a helium baloon to indicate where a potential buy is..
