starting problem
Car started fine this morning but after shutting the garage and trying to restart no joy. There's a loud clicking sound coming from the passenger side of the car possibly fuse box area?
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

get the relay to click with your finger on it - do each relay and you'll work out which one is making the noise. Easy enough to replace and see if that solves the problem.
I have relays if you need one.

Hell of a day yersterday, car died, window blew in on house but insuance assessor came round mid chaos and said he would never record a car as mint as my Mk1 as a total loss. So car will be fixed soonish.

Anyone know if this is the fueling relay? Looks far newer than all other relays so this could have been a problem with the car before..
Crazy quiff - PM me your details and I'll send you some money for another.
Thanks

I'm thinking the fact that the car does not turn over could be a stater/immobiliser problem but the relay is ticking loudly.

There is a little flange on the starte poer lead (the big one) that can bridge to the solenoid power lead (the small lead). You can bridge with a big screwdriver or a small spanner. Just make sure you are in neutral first and set the hand brake. If you can start, the starter is not the problem and you need to look at switching/wiring. If you can't start, then your starter needs work or you have a bad battery lead. There are no fuses or relays between the starter and the battery, it is just the big red cable.
Things that have happened to my car:
1. I had the brushes in the starter wear out (actually just one, it was uneven). Brushes are cheap, but you need a big soldering gun and a torch to preheat (at least I did).
2. My ignition switch wore to the point that it can't switch the starter on (mechanical problem, not the plug in electrics). Now I have a big red button that works the starter.
