Amy,

Does the light come on as soon as you start the engine or after a period of seconds or minutes?  O_o

Was it doing it before all the changes???

It came on after about 30 mins of driving so I took it to the garage, the work was done today so i took it for a longer drive and it flashed after an hour. Its never constantly on,just a flash.

OK I'm asking these questions to save the experts asking them.

Q. Have you properly checked the oil level using the dip stick when the engine is cold, warm and hot?

Q. Does the light start flashing when you are cornering or just after?

Q, As asked before, did this happen before the pump, oil and filter were changed?

 :)

I've checked it cold with the dip stick, not warm or hot though, level is fine

The oil light came on before the work was done, its comes on less since the work has been done though

It came on after turning of a steep hill, Wales is quite hilly ;)

Thanks :)

Might be worth checking the wires on the sender . And the senders themselves

Mk1 2l TSR G60.  .getting. There twice as fast

Mk1 lhd diesel…….getting. There for half the cost

As above but in addition, you should always check your oil when the engine is warm!
Not cold or hot.
Start the engine from cold, let it run normally for 2 or 3 minutes (no more) then check the level twice carefully!

the low pressure sender is in the side of the head, these can trigger if your cam cap bearings are worn. to test this move it to the filter housing and run a temp wire to extend it to the factory spade.

if its a gti this is easy just remove the smaller white sender and put it in the head, put your pressure switch in the spare hole. if not you might have a spare hole with a threaded blank in it, if so as above.

otherwise you'll have to swap the high pressure switch from the filter housing to the head and move its wire to suit, you may or may not receive a light and buzzer over 2k if the pressure is too low, but i imagine at revs it should be ok

For the £2.56 it might be worth just trying a new pressure sensor/switch, I think your's is blue/black on the side of the head, if so then this blue one will work.
Straight forward swap the hardest thing is finding a socket long enough to undo it or use a ring spanner and make sure the new sensor/switch has a new little washer on the threads to seal it.
Then keep the old one as a spare as they usally just start to leak oil when they go.

I've never heard about checking the oil when it's warm? Only ever done mine when it's cold and seems to work for the 200,000 miles I've driven in the car since I brought it.
