MK1 I.6 ENGINE

Does anyone know if a 1600cc diesel engine from a mk2 golf or jetta will fit my mk1 golf 1600cc diesel.

it should do as they are virtually the same engine

Hi,the engine mount is in a different place on the mk1 but if i remember correctly,the bolt holes are in the block still,so they will fit,i put a 1997 mk3 diesel box into my 83 mk1 diesel

If I was going to the trouble of swapping to another non-MK1 engine I'd find a 1.9D or 1.9TD. Probably more readily availible from MK3 Golfs than MK1/11 1.6s are.
