Help with a sheared bolt please

Anyone know an easy way to remove a sheared bolt ?

just typical, the day before a show I've been looking at how I can stop a water leak and realised the water connection pipe was held on the one bolt and a load of sealant !!


 

Can you weld? Get a nut a bit bigger and weld it over inside the nut, failing that it will need drilling and tapping

Probably the best way is to drill a small hole down it and get an "easyout" (which is like a really tapered course left handed threaded tap) to draw it out but put you'll need to heat it up as well.

If you don't have an easy out and are really careful you could try drill down the centre with a 5mm drill and re tap it. Or if you end up having to go bigger with your hole then put an M6 helicoil in it.

ALthough I'm thinking if your having to ask how to do it then you may not have any of the above available to you in the short time you have if your going to a show.

trouble with easy outs is they are uber hard, if you shear it off you'll really struggle to drill it so be careful!

Did you manage to remove the stud? I have exactly the same problem as you. 

I picked up a set of left handed drill bits from Halfords which worked a treat.

I drilled a pilot hole first and then due to limited space had to 'screw' in the left handed bit by hand which wasn't easy until I could manage to get a socket on the end of the bit. Easy after that, I just undid the bolt and all was good.

It's a pain to do but if like me you don't have access to a welder this is a good cheap solution, plus I've got a set of left handed bits in case i need them in the future . If I remember correctly they were about £20 for the set from Halfords.

Good luck, just be careful when drilling the pilot not to go too dear and stay central !
