I've had my 1.8GTI in at a K-Jet specialists this last week and one of the things he did was replace the dizzy for the older type without the rev limiter. He said the rev limiter type is prone to arking. What sort do you have fitted ?
….Wouldn't do for me (my '82 has the rev limiter rotor arm and never given me any trouble…..not as much as a "leg out of bed" would be if I left my foot on the pedal after 6.5 to 7Ks on the rev-Counter…which I am prone to do in 2nd gear)
Whenever did the "older type" not have a rev limiter…anyone with a GTI older than '82 ????
I'd recommend you put the rev-limiter rotor arm back on if it fits or even put yer old dizzy back if not and if you still have it.
Don't forget we can all be animals when there's an XR3 slightly in front!
Lakesk8, try a new cap (even a VW one) before you give up on this…dizzy caps aren't all perfick and the odd rogue slips out the box on occassion
Cheers

Not a worry unless they get badly worn really.
