distributor issues

Ive got a 1990 1.8 carb golf cabby. When I bought the car the previous owner said he had replaced the dizzy, couldn't find the original and wasn't sure if the new one he got from gsf is correct! I've looked at it but cant find a part number. The advance retard doesnt seem to be working properly, I set the timing up last night to 18deg but when I take the vacuum pipe off it makes no difference to the car.

Would a 026 905 205 AC fit?

Thanks in advance,
Darren.

to set the advance timing with a strobe you need to remove the vacuum pipe and plug it.

set it with the strobe then replace the vacuum pipe.

There are a number of distributors with similar parts numbers but I believe that dizzy is from a carb EX engine.

I think thats only on the gti engine, mines carb not gti.

According to my logbook my engine is an EX.

026 905 205 AC is mk2 1.8 carb, so it should do you fine. as you say you need to leave the vac line connected to set timign with carb dizzy :)
