Best oil?

About to do a change...
Hi there people I'm going to change my oil and filter over the weekend, along with a few other bits, i was wanting to know what is the best oil rating to use? I have an 87 1.6 carb cabby, done 102000 miles, everything still feels good n tight too! What make oil are people using aswel? Thanks for any help

i use 10W40 spec oil, either quantum synta silver from VW spares or fuchs titan from opie oils

Cool, thank for the advice! It was crazy, I said to my brother that I was going to change the oil over the weekend then an hour or so later I got an email off eBay saying 30% off at opie oils! Mad as lol! Thanks again

Best to use a genuine VW filter and fit a new sump plug washer.
Genuine 056115561G Oil Filter | AVS Car Parts
£3.96 for the filter and they sell the sump plug washer for 18p! They also sell the oil.
worth getting a couple to cover the postage.
or try vw dealer they are not much more from them.
change the oil and filter every 10,000 miles and your engine will last a lot longer, I've done 250,000 miles with my engine.
