Mk1 GTi Campaign Restoration Thread - New pics Page 6

About time for an update, this is from last week having had some skims applied to it:

My handwork in prepping the panels:

The doors have had some welding to them, better the devil you know than the devil you don't.

Hopefully going back down tonight to see the car in primer!!!

Jimmi said

you're in Cardiff??

where are you getting it sprayed?!

In Barry, friend of the family so not sure how much he'll charge. After this job he's only going to concentrate on more modern cars. He's said the money just isn't there anymore for partial resto's.

Finally some shots in it's second coat of primer:

Gonna be flatted and have another coat of primer today/tomorrow.

Should be painted the end of the week finally (although I wont hold my breath lol)

Excellent work Gareth83. 8) The final stages of a restoration are always the best, especially when paint is applied. Will you be spraying it the original silver?

What filler did you use here, as this don't seem like the usual u-pol  filler?.. i'm guessing it's something finer?

Put the wings, bonnet and tailgate on Saturday.

Picked her up today, it's actually her 25th birthday next week same as mine ;-)

Put little things on so far like fuel cap, door catches, bonnet stay, VIN plate, bonnet catch, front grille center section.

Need to lift the doors slightly as they have dropped over the years - any tips? Just lift?

Going to try putting the roof liner back on tomorrow. Again, any tips?

Looks great dude,

Did you manage to take any pics of the sun roof drain tubes you'd sorted whilst the head lining was off?

Bit of a sore subject that one to be honest. the guy welded soem mild steel tubing facing downwards, this will interfere with the headlining so will be rectified this week. I'll get some pics up anyway tomorrow for you.

Ordered all the stickers and tailgate decal from:
http://volkswagenstickers.co.uk/

Excellent service, fast delivery and top quality items. Competitively priced too!

So I fitted the tailgate decal and rear windscreen, just a couple of shots as it stands at the mo:

Can't wait to sort the headlining then refit the rear quarter windows and the windscreen then I can wash the dusty thing ha ha!
