I've now had a correction for the figures:
VOLKSWAGEN GOLF (HATCHBACK) 1974-1984 9517
VOLKSWAGEN GOLF CONVERTIBLE 1979-1993 9309
Please note these figures are based on years, not chassis numbers, so they'll contain a few Mk2s and Mk3 convertibles

so if that is the case, and the numbers are similar,
there must be someone out there who see's about 40 tintops to one cabby!
cos i see about 40 cabbies to 1 tintop!
those figures are obviuosly rubbish

Those figures are NOT rubbish, they are from the DVLA's data partner. I can't remember the details on what the basis was - might be still registered but not necessarily taxed - ie SORNed cars are also included (I imagine lots of hatchbacks are SORNed compared to cabbys).
Why say they are rubbish based only on what YOU see day-to-day in your local area?

Paul, rather than keep asking for someone official to re-contact the DVLA - I assume you still have the contact detaisl, coudl you not just retry?
If not, let me know the detaisl and one of us will sort when we've 5 mins spare

So how many mk1s do folks reckon have gone for scrap then with the new government scheme? im saying a few as I know I'm tempted if Boris doesn't sell…anyone else done it yet or know of any?
anyway, back to OP question…
I'd liek to think none, but we all know that soem will have met that sad end..
I had a guy call me up to see fianyone wants to buy his 75k one owner cabby GTI before trading in to scrap scheme - he was supposed to email me all details, but didnt leave a number - never heard form him since - he understood too that he'd get a better deal if he took 1500 cash intot the dealers…

I'd guess and say more tintops are sorned than cabbies as you do see more cabbies out there

I'm unable to do it but the contact details for the person who helped the club out last time are:

It must be local to you then. Look at club stands at national shows and regional meets, its sometimes half-and-half hatchbacks and cabbies, but sometimes there's many more hatthbacks. Sometimes no cabbies come at all (for example GTI Inters, Sunday, in 2007 - no cabbies - lovely sunshine!)
I personally have 2 hatchbacks and I HAD one cabby. You have 1 hatchback and maybe you still have 1 cabby? So thats a ratio of 3:2.

I would have thought that the mojority of hard top mk1's that attend shows are those that are kept for shows or are in the process of 'being done up'…. or rat look
It would be false to judge by show standards because folk bring their cars out specifically for that purpose and then put them away again.
Interesting though.
What's the criteria that prevents you for making a fresh approach Paul, out of interest? Does it have to be an 'organisation' person?
