Speedo Dial Problem
![](https://vwgolfmk1.org.uk/uploads/pbextract/918872/dashdails.jpg)
I spoke to a company who sell a digital sensor via a pick up off wheel or hub that gives the signal this goes to a little square box or could go to a digital dial. not very eye friendly but would get it through an mot. But is there a way of converting this back in to a analogue input?
Or
Has anyone out there put a digital dial behind the original face of the golf dial and made it work as if standard, I also see the calibration also being a problem. I am guess the original dial would need taking apart and some how put the digital workings in place with just the needle poking through vw face.
Any info or help would be great or any leads as to company that builds or services dials
Thanks Mk1retro

Mark out the Rev counter with the apropriate marks and voila, it'd have to be calibrated in some way though. :dontknow:

You could probably work it out from your revs * gear ratio, upto a point.
not legally.

If its race/rally what does it matter?
A lot of race cars are road legal, in order to be in a road legal class. If you 'step up' into a non-road-legal class, you find yourself up against some very exotic machinery. A non-working speedo would be a daft little thing to prevent you making the class.

Then why build a gearbox without a speedo cable?
It will have an electronic sensor to provide a pulse, for an electronic speedo.
I have a Hall sensor on my car, in addition to the normal speedo cable, so I can (electronically) detect and record speed in my data logger. It bolts near to the transmission and senses the bolts of the CV joint. If I hook up the laptop while running the car, I can see real time speed, on the lappy, if needs be.

they use the ABS sensors to generate 2 pulse (one from either wheel) and combining them to give a speed.
really not unusual in a modern car.

So can an electric speedo be fitted to it then? If so wouldn't this be the best option?

keeping the original look but using an electrical speedometer.
sorry to have dragged this thread off mate.
yes have a look at that link. the technology exists so it's a matter of finding it in the uk and suitable for use now.
