Diesel Convertion into MK1 anyone heard about one??
Recently i saw a couple of dubshack adverts in performance VW selling MKII golfs that had been fitted with the MK3 1.9TDI engine. I was wondering if anyone had seen this sort of convertion for a MKI either the 130 or 150bhp engine, as i want a retro motor thats quite reliable good on the miles but also got some kick? I'm interested in what sort of price this conversion would be and what garages might be able to perform it?
Cheers

i've often thought about going down this route myself. seeing as you can get just under 200bhp from the diesel engine with a remap and some fiddling. and the economy and torque would be quite amazing in a little mk1..

I would imagine that you would have to do a complete conversion using factory ecu, keys, clocks, engine bay wiring loom etc etc. A wise move would be change the clutch / flywheel assy to a solid type (i.e. Sachs) this alone is about ?750 as the dual mass units are a known weak spot on these engines.
One thing to consider is the torque. I doubt a std 020 box would cope with the vast amounts of torque these engines (my fabia develops 312lbft) produce so a later model / custom quaife box might be the way forward.
Drive shafts would also have to be uprated to a minimum of 100mm, if not more?
On top you'd have to have custom downpipe / exhaust as well as engine mounts (not sure what the difference is between the 1.8T mounts and the PD engine ones?
For info VW motorsport ran a diesel mk4 rally car this was supported by Bosch Motorsport, who also supply the Audi Le Mans Diesel cars!! However a quick look at one of these who's your daddy ecu's brought a sharp intake of breath at 6500EUR!!!! Unless you can get an aftermarket ecu that'll support a diesel application you're stuck with the stabdard ecu and expensive tuning costs!! Does megasquirt or emerald support diesel???
Try Qpeng, jabba, awesome etc?
Keep us updated on how you get on (including pics).
