TSR Power Steering
I have posted about this before but i have done some more research.
Basically I have a 1993 RHD GTI Cabriolet Rivage with power steering.
The problem I have is that the drivers side steering mount is the wrong size. This means that the rack moves slightly giving a sense of 'slow fast slow' steering when cornering at speed.
I have just bought the Haynes VW Golf Restoration guide which shows the TSR kit. Looking at the pictures it looks very similar to the one fitted to our car. However some one has fitted a Ford (?!) power steering fluid reservoir everything looks very professional, brackets painted to match body colour that sort of thing. And other than the rack moving the steering is fine.
Back to the original problem does anyone know what mounting bracket is fitted to the TSR kit it certainly looks wider than the manual rack mounting which someone fitted to ours when the original wore out. Could it be a MK2 bracket?
Can anyone shed any light on this one?
Cheers

Do you know what rubber bush was used? as this seems to be the main sticking point.

If i remember rightly the rubber came in a nissan box to go with the nissan rack allegedly used.
You were right i was wrong ops: copied this from another site may help you ?
Some right hand drive Mk1 Golf Cabriolets exist in the UK with power steering. These were fitted / supplied by www.steeringdevelopments.co.uk in Hemel Hempstead, but the cars went into VW dealers to arrange for it to be done ? effectively endorsed by VW UK.
Cost was about ?1,500 ?at the time? and was ?1,900 + VAT without being chanelled via a VAG dealer when I enquired in 1996.
There is conflicting information as to which rack was used. Ford, Renault, Micra and the obligatory Nissan Bluebird/Primera rumoured? Mothy, who had one on a Cabrio, posted the part number: RI53A00. A Rover PAS pump was fitted.
TSR Performance (www.tsr-performance.com) have offered a right hand drive power steering kit for several years in the UK. This kit is in the region of ?1,000+, and utilises a rack believed to originate from a Nissan Bluebird with Primera steering arms (edit: from a P10 model I understand - credit Vinesh @ Eurotek - which is P10 (model I assume) - 1990-96).
Adaptor plates are required to mount the rack onto the Mk1 bulkhead and the steering column UJ needs modifying to use Golf UJs at the column end and Bluebird at the other. Ancillaries, pump etc are from the Mk2 Golf.
This information follows several efforts to piece together this jigsaw, and finally, in 2005, the first thread below enabled enough corroborative information to come together to complete a decent outline of the story.
Do not let anyone tell you power steering was produced from the factory for RHD Golfs!

I could only get the part from a main dealer - got it today and fitted this evening - bingo! problem solved.
Took it out this evening and its made such a difference. No vagueness or slowquickslow experienced.
It probably is a TSR kit but it seems to be slightly different from the one
illustrated in the haynes restoration manual. all the original bolts are used on the mountings, where as the rack illustrated uses modified brackets. When i phoned TSR they were a bit reluctant to give any information other than to confirm that Nissan parts were used.
I guess they didn't want to commit without seeing the vehicle.
All good now though

Some further information on a TSR PAS kit install is now posted here:

Edit:
Just an update on this, following a successful kit install in the last month:chudd said

The Primera track rod ends evidently do not fit, nor do Bluebird, as the taper is too large for the Mk1 hub, the information above having been taken in good faith.
The Quinton Hazell / First Line part numbers given in the second link above are the correct ones and seem to be off a Rover 214/414/Honda equivalent.
I've just updated this on the Club GTI FAQ.
HTH and I must bring the Mk1 along to a meet sometime.
Cheers,
