Airbox retaining clip
There's two flat semi-circular bits of metal (I won't call them springs) bolted to the top of the carb. Then the rod/clip goes through these and over the airbox itself:
Together with the breather pipe and filter housing mount on the rocker box, is this all that holds the airbox on? :dontknow:
Only mine seems to want to pop off more than stay on
I can't help wonder if the clip/rod is supposed to latch into a hole on the carb or sit under a lip, but it isn't obvious (to me) that it should.
Would appreciate any advice.
Cheers
Gaz

Yup, it's a 1.5 - 1457 JB block and yes, it's a Weber (you can just make it out in the pic). Auto gearbox, manual choke if that makes any difference.
Carb was fitted in 1992, but I've only had it six weeks. Was a non-runner, but is now a runner

i did have pics, but i think i may have deleted them
Anyway, remove air filter box from carb, now on the carb you will see 2 bolts that bolt down the carb to the flange also these bolts are holding the bracket that clips over the air box and holds it down.
Right it is the bracket we concentrate on, look at your air filer box (METAL PART) underneath that goes over top of carb, if you look their is a small lip that goes all way round the air filter box.
Now place the box back on carb and make a mark on the box and line it up with one of the bracket pieces, remember there are only two, mark up the right one as you look at engine bay, then easier for you fella.
I should be approx half an inch wide, get a dremmel and cut just on the lip only a small piece approx same width as the bracket holder.
Just do one, leave other alone so your only doing one cut.
Slip back on air filter box and she'll fit like a glove and sit flush bud
If you can, take a pic of the air box off (Upside Down) and pic of carb, post them up, i mod them in PSP and show you excactly where to cut bud
Pete
P.S. clean that carb also, its filthy

Got my weber diagram to show you bud, where the arrow is, this is the part your cutting out a small section of the lip from the air filter box.
Ignore the bracket above in pic, thats for the audi 80 fella, yours is bracket i have pointed too

Many thanks for the replies, although I'm having a dim moment and don't fully understand what you're saying to do :?
Here's a pic of the top of the carb and a slightly blurry one of the airbox (which looked fine on the back of my camera, doh! ):
I promise to clean the carb soon - honest I'm just too chuffed at having got it running at the moment ops:

even thou someone snapped the bracket, the air filter box will not fit regardless fella due to the design of the bracket bud.
The bracket being snapped would cause one side to lift bud, i would get a new one, but do still do the mod i am on about to help you half way.
I will defo post pics up before 12pm today fella, as i have still problem with mine starting and looks like my cam belt might have slipped

Looking at the snapped bracket, the reason that has happened is due to the stress of the bracket lifting higher than it should because the mod was not done, then the air filter box sits higher putting the stress on the weak areas of bracket
