yeah thats what im thinking, just need to know for future that if needs be wuldnt be a problem selling it
It will be a problem selling it, if its Cat C. Cat D less so, since insurance companies will write off a car as Cat D for sometimes silly little things.

I personally have bought a few cat c write offs and repaired them and put them back on the road, then sold them on. The main concern with them is the insurance, as in most policys it says they will not insure previous written off vehicles, so on a cat c there is no way of getting out of saying you did not no it was a write off as it says on the v5. You can still get insurance on them but you will have to get an independant insurance engineer to inspect them and provide a report.
But as long as its been repaired properly then you should have nothing to worry about.
My main thing would be the price you was paying for it, as there are plenty of normal gti`s out there so if your buying a cat c 1 the price should really reflect this

I think it will put people off, I recently backed out of a purchase (admitedly of a different car) due to the hpi showing it as a cat d. Whilst I am sure the car was repaired ok I wasn't prepared to take the risk when the car has my children in it.
i understand peoples concerns in this, but i work in a accident repair centre where we repair upto 30 cars a week, so basically the cat c / d write off process does not actually indicate how heavy the damage was on the cars, it is more like the age / value of the car what indicates it to be a write off.
We repair cars which are quite heavy damage, and these are put back on the road with no record at all . All because they are newer and can take more costs against them. But as long as they are repaired properlt to the manufacturers specs then there is really no problem with them imo

My sportline is a Cat D……….. some jockey stole it off the owner 2 before me…all they did was break the n/s 1/4 light screw the ignition and damage the front bumper………..there is NO record at the DVLA of the damage but the guy i bought it off had it VIC tested and it is all spot on…..but it does still say on the log book "vehicle has been a total loss/or had substantial repair" identity checked on 26/01/2006
when it was stolen it was deemed uneconomical to repair, only due to parts prices and labour!! it still has all its original panels and theres not a mark underneath it.its just over zealous insurers taking the easy way out and not taking into account the actual car.just its book price and parts and labour costs…..
mine looks and drives spot on and as i dont ever intend to sell it i guess it dont really matter to me
