Anyway I took the grinder to the spare wheel well and basically got carried away. I have removed all the waxoyl and paint from the inside and most from the outside and started to patch up one or two bits.
I will post more pics when I fix the camera or I may use my sons camera.
Nearly forgot, I also cut out the two holes for teh number plate, on the rear panel, because they were slightly rusty, and welded in two pieces of metal.
The bug is back

Have taken the rear O/S lower quarter panel repair so far. I then moved on to the spare wheel well and started welding various patches in here and there. I just kept finding more and more small rust holes in the well. Spent hours on it welding and grinding.
Well until yesterday. I had also been doing bits and pieces to the rear panel, when I noticed that the O/S light area was different from the N/S. It had been accident damaged at some time.
Time for a plan, so I took my trusty grinder and cut out the O/S rear light area from my first project car, cut out the damaged area on this car and sorted it all out to fit in.
Getting to the point I have now taken the bull by the horns and have totally cut out the spare wheel well. What a waste of time that was. It is to be replaced with the well from my first car, which is in excellent condition (about the only bit on the car). Also now planning to purchase a complete rear panel from mr Quiff and fit that.
So looks like my first ever Golf is destined for the scrapyard in the sky, well whats going to be left of it by the time I cannablise it.
Pics to follow. Honestly.

Gone. The hole ready for fitting of the good spare wheel well.
the same hole again from under the car.
The good spare wheel well, which i have cleaned off and welded a small patch onto.
and finally an other view of the well.
Plans for now are to order the rear panel from crazy quiff, remove the old panel then weld in the spare wheel well complete with the metal panel to weld to the rear panel. I will post more pics when i get on with it.

The old rear panel is no more. But I need help, do the rear lights sit out proud of the tailgate or should they be flush. Hope you understand what I mean. Its just before I go and weld the new panel in place. I should have checked before i got carried away with the grinder, but as usual didnt. ops:
I will post some more pics when I get back to it, which should be soon as Im on holiday just now.
