does anyone know if you need the keys for an engine with ecu and everything….. does the ecu have a built in immobiliser ?

when I was last at my local dealer someone needed a new key for they're passat, think the guy in parts said it was something like ?45 but they needed the car in to prgoram the key in… might be worth a trip to your local dealer and have a chat with someone about it for future reference
