What are automatic Golfs like?
There's a GL auto (Y reg) on evil-bay with only 56,000 miles and mint interior! Just wondered if they're a bit sluggish or actually a really good runabout? Reg number would suit someone called Dick maybe!

On 56K i'd imagine it would be fine! I think the Auto boxes start to be problematic after high mileage…

What a great looking car!! I'd be tempted myself….if BabyDub needs a larger runaround in a couple of weeks!!!

Congratulations by the way! I'm sure BabyDub would love it! Would hate to see sick on those immaculate seats though!

it had done 69k when i got it and it had just failed its MOT but was free!!
The paintwork isnt quite as nice as that one but it's pretty good.
ive been keeping an eye on the GL auto's going on ebay for the last few months to see what i may get for mine when/if it's sorted. The cheapest one with MOT etc Ive seen went for ?400 and have ranged up to ?650.
Only driven mine once when i got it to take it home - about 15miles. It had been sat outside for 6mnths but started with the help of a jump start. Driving it back it was fine and nippier than i expected!

Thanks, glad to hear it was quite nippy. I'm sure you'll get plenty for it when it's ready. I wonder what the reserve is on this ebay one…

Fuel economy is the same as the GTI - 38 on a long run, but usually 34 general driving, even when I use the 'loud' pedal - which is quite often !!!!
A real poser's cruisemobile - love it.

I have to say appart from the novel kickdown I found it to be noisy and rather lacklustre .I used to own a 1500 GLS manual for 3 years and it had higher miles and able to clock 110 mph (on a track ofcourse) the auto made it to 85 and the gearbox whine was unbearable. So although it was an S plate and I cant comment on a newer Cab. I for one wouldnt bother..Although it is a rest for the left foot..
