Wave!
There was quite a humerous thread on golfgti.co.uk on the 'other halves' and work collegues point of views. Check it out!

He then explained that his wife had a car to exchange if I was interested…a NISSAN MICRA! 8) Needless to say I've still got my trusty Golf!
P.s - I'm thumb-happy too! Why not I say?

I think modern golf drivers need to learn some respect for the car that started it all. I mean it?s like having respect for people that fought in the wars. The car changed the way of car design and I feel people need to appreciate that! People need to look at Mk1's in a different light. It would nice to hear them say "cool a MK1 golf, love that retro ride :y: " rather than " god that?s old what you driving one of them for :posh: " Oh well one day people will learn!
I used to own a mk1 - well I've had 2 actually - YDU 720X & SMU 420Y. Currently I drive an 98 Scotia White Mitsubishi Evolution V RS…. fancy getting another mk1 someday

I'll have to tell that one to a war veteran and see what he thinks!

If i had your roads i wouldent have time to wave at anyone.
ops: They're not THAT bad! But it is SO annoying on some roads when you have to subject your poor Golf to pot-holes and bump dodging…ESPECIALLY when i'm paying the same road tax as a 2 litre car and GTI's etc! (Not that anyone should have to drive on c*** roads!)Suppose it's about emissions aswell, but I've seen more smoke come out of the petrol 'L' reg Fiesta on my street than from mine! Not fair…and no free tax after 25 years either! :boohoo:
I agree with the mk5 comments, they insist on racing you instead of just leaving you alone or giving a friendly acknowledgement…I had one right up behind me recently, probably wanting to get past at the next opportunity (even though I go as fast as everyone else) so I flew through a tight gap and he had to wait…that lost him! Well they will make them so much bigger these days! And now they're bringing out a 'plus' model mk5!

Us Mk1 drivers have got to be the friendliest bunch out there I reckon!

The golf plus its getting a bit silly , the golf 5 is as big as an old pastie the polos now bigger than a mark 1 golf and i expect the new lupo will be twice the size and yet wagon wheels have got smaller its crazy (have they got smaller or have i just got bigger !) . My girlfriends scirocco gets lots of respect off other dubbers .
Ha ha! The golf plus is silly! Shes getting a big fatty.
Wagon wheels are getting smaller I'm sure! So are cream eggs and mars bars! They're tricksters making us think they have stayed the same and that we have got bigger!

Does anyone else agree that the basic non-GTI mk5's back end isn't very attractive? 8O The plastic bumpers go on forever and it barely resembles a Golf at all. (I wouldn't say no to a TDI or GTI though  ) The mk4 is the nicest looking I think (after the mk1/2 of course!) :wink:geezer said

P.s - I find the older the car, the nicer the driver! So us lot are definitely the nicest around, as Grant says! No point being a snooty, miserable git…it only takes a second to acknowledge somebody else in the same car as you (if it's rare that is!)

I think the MK4 was much better looking than the car that replaced it.
Golfs should have round headlights and thick rear quarter panels.

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

I couldn't agree more. It's literally a bit 'butt ugly'! What is it with ditching the characteristic round headlights? They've kept them on the newish polo (can't remember what year) AND the Lupo! :dontknow: Ah well, I'm planning on working my way up the Golf ladder when my Mk1 finally fluffs it - mk2 next (if there's any left by then) I can see which I prefer if I make it to mk5! There'll probably be a mk10 by then - the size of a truck! Good ole VW!
