1987 Golf Cabriolet K-Jet

in my view if the metering head has been rebuilt you need to check your fuel volumes they probably are set at base settings

Do not know a lot but willing to help if possible

After it was rebuilt, i got them all set up correctly by a shop. The car ran perfectly "fine" for about a month. After that it started doing the above :)

Heya! My golf ran perfectly!

*Ran*

The newest addition to the fleet! : It doesnt want to start when warm.

I have replaced : fuel tank sender, rubber fuel lines, pressure regulator, fuel pump, had all hardlines pressure tested, fuel filter and the entire injection system was professionally rebuilt.

With everything brand new it ran as it should, until about a week ago. Cold start is no problem, but as soon as i go into the Shops and come back after more than 10 seconds im cranking for a solid 10 minute before it sputters to life.

If the engine is warm and i turn it off, and immediatly turn it on again. It runs like it should. But anything longer than about 10 seconds and im cranking away.

The only thing i can think of would be an injector thats "dieseling" and keeps dripping so the mixture cant ignite.

I would very very much appriciate more opinions on what could be causing it.

(P.s. engine has a tendency to run at 800-850 rpm when i come to a stop, havent figured that one out yet either.

Many many thanks!
UPDATE :

After taking out the plugs and inspecting, they arent the perfect brown i want. But not bad

Did precisely nothing to them and reinstalled.

Took out the injectors, i have a vacuum leak on cyl 3. The O-rings are closer to stone, than stone itself.

The idle screw seems to loosen itself, so those O-rings need replacing too.

Does anyone know where one can acquire those?

Also, the engine really easily drowns itself with fuel.

But starting without throttle makes it run at 500rpm then die.

I am about || close to buying a set of weber carbs.

What do I think - You need to get new injector seals, although that won't cure the over fuelling, then get hold of a pressure gauge and check your pressures - system, control, and holding.
That should take some of the guess work out of it.

About a month and a half ago it was at a shop, where the air fuel mixture was set back to how it should be.

How does one check this himself? Thanks!

When you drop the sensor plate you will see any injector after spray or leakage good luck

I just checked system pressure by following this video : Mk1 VW Bosch CIS Fuel Pressure Test - YouTube

System pressure is all good.

Engine has clearly given me the sign that cil 2 has a vacuum leak now. When cranking it sounds like a dead miss.

Also its heavily overfueling, it tries to start instantly but it gets way too much.

Any idea's? It has never done this before.

Will be ordering new seals for the injectors now.

Update !

I ordered the O - rings. They will come in tomorrow.

What i found out :

If i disconnect the warm up regulator from power, it starts every single time with a light throttle press. Wont die and idles fine even on 3 cilinders.

I had the entire injection system & warm up regulator profesionally rebuilt. Heh?

Thanks!

Disconnecting the power to the WUR would in theory make the mixture richer, what about the control pressure, was that in spec?

Control pressure was right where it should be! Followed the video and got the same consistent results!
