Radiator air locks and overheating

Post

Right might be getting to the bottom of things.
Both thermostat and thermoswitch tested and are working, wasn't able to obtain a thermometer to see exactly when the switch circuit closed but it did and opened again when cooled.

At some point on my searches I've upset fuse no.1 so thats now replaced.

Fan now works with plug wires bridged.

Currently flushing the cooling system with the thermostat out so I'm hoping the fan will kick in any minute

Bingo, fan came on and did its job and turned off again so happy days.

It appears the connections on the fan motor are a bit dodgy as wire wiggling makes it cut out and on again.

Many thanks everyone, I think we've got it, result was dodgy fan motor causing fuse no.1 to trip

Those crimp connectors that you have you can make then grab a bit tighter by pinching them closed with a pair of Diagonal Pliers or a good set of lineman pliers, be careful as you can get them so tight you can't get them on.

Glad you got it sorted out.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

Its the male spades on the fan itself, they are moving in and out slightly so have ordered a new fan to fit Monday.

I'll remake the diy loom as well while I'm there but finally I have a full (and very clean) cooolant system with correct ratio of coolant and deionised water oh and a neat little hole in my thermostat

I'd now be happy to drive this car absolutely anywhere over any distance
