why have they decided to do this now, I've had my account eight or nine years. the terms and conditions certainly didn't state then I couldn't third party host.
Maybe if you've got a new account and there are new rules you know what you're looking at.

did you actually read them! Wow! Fair play  :P

I've bought the rights to a few internet domains over the years, such as the kids names so they will have them when they're older.

One of the perks (with the registration company I'm with at least) is you get a limited amount of free webspace included to create a website, so long as you continue to renew the domain with them.

I'm far from knowledgable and if I can easily create and publish a simple webpage using their templates anyone can!

Like anything you can pay a little or a lot for a domain name depending on what you want… I've just priced a few generic ones and they are around £7.00 a year for a co.uk one.

Since I bought mine they've extended domains to include lots of different interests, so it's not just .com and .co.uk as it was.

Just to see, I priced www.mk1gti.golf and it's still available at £35.00 annually.

The company I'm with also offer upgrades so you can pay for additional web space should the free amount no longer be enough.

The annual packages are approx £30.00 for 10GB, £42.00 for 100GB and £100 for unlimited.

Might be worth looking into if you want to host your own pictures, would give you the control over them and if photobucket are asking $399 annually would work out considerably cheaper, even with the dearest unlimited package.

I'd of thought if it was an issue eight years ago they would of done then what they've done now. As far as I'm concerned by allowing then third party hosting it's a bit rich too now change the Terms and cons without notification prior. This would have at least allowed me to download all my media off their site and close my account, as it stands today my photo's are  not accessible on their site.

If a hacker did this it would be called Ransomware.
If a Business did this it would be called increasing revenue at the cost of membership.

Please bear with me as I will be porting all my pictures to a new place, to be determined, and then re-writing all my how do I do that's so if my how-to's are pictureless they will return please be understanding in the meantime.  I also noticed that Pbucket changed the way they linked things, so actually older photos used just the  site link, but then they relinked the link so that you are actually doubling the bandwith of the photo.

ie:

So this has been going on for a while.  Better ?
NOT.

And they will wonder why they have lost a ton of monies in this quarter……

I agree Briano1234 ..
I've got a few that will be useless.
We can upload pics here to the forum site without third party bu that's a little late in the day now.
I'm asking myself if it's legal what they are doing.

That's the thing isn't it? Going forward we can find alternatives. But it's all the old stuff and how too's.

This has completly destroyed the mk1 polo owners forum as it only ever had about 30 members at any one time who were active. The forum was based on a  Invisionfree type hosting system (similar to Retro rides I presume) and they don't have hosting capabilities. All that info is now gone. Most of dating back to the early naughties! Alot of the members are no longer active or have moved onto to other stuff, so they aren't going to update all the stuff.

Could you tell me more? Links to domain hosters if you wouldn't mind. Knowing me I'd just find the ones that download viruses as soon as you even think about visiting the website!

Bucket is giving me fits, as I try to download all my images.  Sometimes it works and other times it don't.

Once I get back all my images, I am going to close it for keeps….

It's strange I can see my pictures in most of the threads I've posted them into but I can't always see other peoples pictures.
1 of my photo bucket accounts is a 100% and I can't get in to delete some pictures and the other account is fine?

Can you see my pictures at the top of page 8 in this thread?

I've posted up a few how to guides and wandering if my pictures can't be seen by others but can be seen by me?

Thanks…

I've used this lot since the beginning… Personally haven't had any difficulties with them over the years.

There's obviously lots of others out there, prices / packages may be different.

I've tried to find out how much 'free' space you get as standard with a domain, but it's not leaping out at me.

Here's the upgrade packages available…

I've had exactly the same too so now my build thread and all other threads / posts are empty!

Was going to use a very handy guide on here when putting the original stickers back on the car but now all the images have vanished it's going to make it more difficult……….frustrating to say the least!!

$399 per year………………absolute joke!
