He had his dark green Rivage with cream leather interior from new only to sell it a couple of years ago at that time it had around 11K on the clock.
I am sure he had a thread on here.

Just for fun?
Or do you have something up your sleeve?
I mean you've got to go some to beat "delivery mileage".
Then of course you have to ask is what is delivery mileage.
Back in the day the absolute lowest would be around 1.5 miles to 3 miles when dropped off at the dealer.
But that's not necessarily the delivery mileage that the customer might see.
We might demo that car on trade plates a number of times, if it was the only one we had at the time in that spec.
You might say that you wanted to have a certain spec and when we check the network there's only one in the UK and that might be in Scotland so would be driven down on plates.
So what's the delivery mileage then?
Low mileage in my opinion although seriously important to have from the qudos point of view but for me a really great example goes way beyond the mileage!

A static car, sorry to say, isn't much more than a lump of metal plastic and a few other bits. What cars are designed for, and Mk1 Golfs are good at, is to be DRIVEN!!!! I had a Golf GTI and I drove it - fast - in the right places of course. It wasn't in the best condition cosmetically although it had a lot of money spent on the mechanical areas and was reliable/safe etc. It had over 100k miles on it; I didn't put massively more onto it but used it regularly on the roads etc as a normal car as well as a fun thing. Those people who buy a Mk1 Golf and simply store it are missing out somewhat.
Just my inner thoughts, and I respect that its only one persons, and my, opinion.

No reason other than an interest in low mileage cars, also healthy conversation and mind stimulation. It beats talking about the EU doesn't it?
It is interesting to see low mileage cars that, drive, sound and feel how they did when they left the factory but I also agree with this:

What about the other end of the scale, high mileaged cars on factory engines I have a 83 gti on 170,000 that's only had the usual services, water pump, belts etc,but no internal work to my knowledge.
I came across one that had 212,000 .a year back.impressive….
My 1.8 GTI has 141k (no where near what Markl's has done) on the clock with the original engine and no evidence of any major work and I'd like to know what the highest mileage a Golf engine covered before needing an overhaul!
However, I also agree with this:

I accept the need for a handful of cars to go into museums for the public at large to see, but it actually saddens me that cars are squirreled away and not used.

I love driving my GTI, I also stretch it's legs from time to time and judging by the way the car responds, it likes having it's legs stretched as much as I like stretching them!
Yomp has a 30k Campaign which I would love to drive just to see how it feels and sounds compared to mine with it's 141k of wear and tear on all of the components including 8 years sitting in a garage doing nothing! I would say that the doing nothing can be worse for the car than giving it a good thrash every now and then!
Mars red 1.8 GTI tintop now MOT'd and on the road!

The brakes are the same on all of them regardless of mileage!! I won't go as far to say they're rubbish as most people do because they do actually stop you. You just have to press them harder! - I call it a man's pedal!

I've seen a Pirelli Edition at the Wolfsburg museum with 100KM on the clock.
