This car has been his since new in 1983 and he loved it every moment, it was never allowed to be dirty… god help you if you even tried to eat in it! I have all the history, bar a few MOT's but I'm finding new bits all the time for it so I don't doubt they'll show up soon. Receipts, original owners manuals… ect ect, a big stack of paper lets call it that! Got the two light grill as well boxed up.
The spare wheel has never been used and only come out for tyre changes. It has six of the Pirelli alloys all together, one of the originals took a bump and is in need or repair, we bought a temporary with the idea of getting the best of them refurbished, that'll be for the new owner to decide.
Now it isnt perfect, theres some chips here and there to the paintwork, but i'd say for an 83 its bloody good. The body is rust free and has had a partial restore with evidence of said restore. but the suspension arms and such like that have got surface rust to them, easily replaceable but I like original, nothing thats a deal breaker by any stretch but brutal honesty is our best policy.
Interior is as you'll see from the pictures, really really good!
Passed it's MOT recently, no advisories, can be historical after I think September this year if memory serves.
Pictures below, if anyone can point me in the right kind of direction for value, that'd be mega! After that I'd like to advertise here first before letting the general public have a go as I really want this to go to someone who will look after it and give it what it deserves. scared to keep it, scared to sell it… hell of a emotional ride this one!

10k maybe more, the market has slowed so I would suggest you wait until spring and whack it on eBay for 15k. Then take what you're happy with… depends if you want it gone quick or you want to sit on it for a while.

You should be able to register it as an Historic vehicle after April 2024 then be able to drive in the city’s ULEZ
Value wise I agree with Roach, but without seeing it it’s hard to say. Spring/summer time is the best time to sell.
I would not worry about things like surface rust on wishbone as normal as easily painted as the after market ones are rubbish so best keep the original stuff. Normal for the odd stone chip as they can't be avoided and shows it's had some use.
Few guides out there on the web with prices etc.

What was the previous restoration work?
Wheel arches and under seal, few other bits corrected along side that but those were the big things!

If it was totally original, 1 owner, (relatively) low miles, rust free etc you could think of a number and double it.
Prev resto work knocks it back a bit but prob top end of what a later GTI can make. Looking on auction result sites £15,000 to £20,000+ is not impossible.

Wow that's a very surprising price for the second one in black! Amazing actually. Certainly something to chew on there. Thanks very much!

If he'd have bought a Ford Escort RS 1600i or RS Turbo add another £10,000-£15,000 to the Golf value…
