Im trying to understand if its a direct fit. First impressions are all, looks similar but the air box and timing belt will be tight against the side of the engine? Anything else to consider ie different engine e mounts, gearbox fit etc?

Exhaust / manifold there are choices as to what to do, either modify the 16v down pipe or use a 4 branch manifold
You will need to relocate your injection and fuel pipes to the other side unless you can source a Scirocco inlet manifold
If your cabby has been a fuel injected one then the tank and pump are good to use, if not you'll need a gti tank, fuel pump and accumulator. It may be easier to do 16v & carb conversion if you've got a non injected car.
I'm sure others will add to this and advise more
That's mine with a KR and scirocco parts!

It's (was) a common conversion to the mk1 years back, there are plenty threads to read up on if you Google search. Engine is a direct fit, you can use either your own gearbox or the 16v but the clutch and possibly driveshafts are different. Only a small amount of wiring to add if you use your own wiring loom.
