Is there a big gap between the rubber and metal top?
Worn top mount can cause a knocking noise when on rough roads.

A lowered ride and new springs makes for a stiffer and bumpier than OEM ride IMHSBO (In My Humble Sore Backs Opinion).![]()
Yeah I agree, not my daily driver though so I am happy with over the original set up

Top mounts ll good, car was rebuilt around 5 years ago although I suspect the bushes were overlooked…
I've had top mounts collapse over a short amount of time and not many miles. I find they last about 5 years before needed changing but my car is a daily drive
Have you looked at the gap?
Have a look at this link to see what to look for.
View topic: Front suspension top mounts - The Mk1 Golf Owners Club
Who ever changed over the suspension did they fit shorter bump stops or kept the original ones?

You can use 3m Window Weld under the lip as well.

The other thing you can do is to tack weld the studs on the mount from under neath, I had a new one spin loose
as I was installing it, which made for a tricky issue.
