Engine swap
Is there any experts out here that could help a car noob out?
I own a 1987 1.8 cab that has a carburator. The engine said goodnight so i recently bought a 1.8 GTI engine with K-jet.(from golf mk1)Ive tried to look for some kind of guides on the internett and asked a couple off ppl, but nobody can help me. Im looking for info what i need to do after i have swapped out the old engine with the new one. Do i need a new fuel pump? Then what kind, ect. I really need all the information.. i usally only mess around with old mopeds/pitbikes so this car stuff is pretty advanced for me, lol.
Thanks in advance and sorry for my bad English

Hello and thanks for fast respons, i did not get the accumulator or fuel tank. im not sure what those others things u mentioned are, so i will try to upload a picture of what i got. This is what i got to work with. thanks again.lhasadreams said
Hi and welcome,
Did you get the k-jet pump, accumulator, fuel tank, metering head and flow plate/arm, injector lines to mention a few things?
You would probably be better off blocking off the injector holes in the head and fitting the carb/manifold to the k-jet engine.

Probably the best idea. You could sell off the kjet bits as well. Only thing I'm unsure of is if the carb engine has a different compression ratio to the k-jet (which is 10:1). You may well be able to just swap the head off the carb engine onto the k-jet block.
That engine actually looks rather tidy!

I agree, I wouldn't want to take that on. What's the point? Stick another carb engine in it, if you want a GTi sell it and buy a GTi. It's a lot of work for an extra 15hp.

Hey! Here in norway, these things dosent grow on trees, ive spent over 3 years finding a engine, and ive not been lazy looking for one. Its alot of 1.1 and 1,5 engines but i want a 1.8. A GTI in norway cost around 20000€ so thats not gonna happend

The engine i got is super good, only got 120k kilometers on it, so thats why i want to use it. Do you know what i need to make it running? Heard some rumors that i only need a electric fuel pump and a surge tank, but im no expert. Thanks!

From these I think you could try to identify what parts you have missing, it's not going to be too hard to work out what you need to add into your existing looms to control the fuel pump and the other various items, I('m not able to help you there) once you remove yours and look to see what is pinned to the connectors.
So to start a list of what's needed, hopefully the more experienced members will add in more details or correct
Injection fuel tank- probably as well to replace filler pipe at same time
Fuel accumulator
High pressure fuel pump / hoses / pump mounting cradle
Fuel lines, return required so it may be an idea to replace with both new
Gti engine wiring loom, Unless you want to modify your own. Fuel pump is run from the rear body loom
Beer, don't forget the beer, you'll need it!
Hope this helps!

Bike carbs
Twin Webber's
Independent throttle bodies
I guess each has their own benefits and costs, better to do your own research and decide which challenge suits you best
Good luck

Injectors will pop out with a big screwdriver. Be fairly gentle with the removal of the seat as you don't want to break it and drop parts into the combustion chamber

The injector seats will unscrew once you take the injectors out, you'll be able to match a blind plug to them and replace once they are out.
