I have a wrong grille fitted for example. I am wondering if my dash is ok but couldn't find related information and decided to ask you guys.
Which dash is the original for my car?
The one I have on it, is with the petrol level indicator under the rev clock and the water indicator above the warning LEDs and an LCD screen below these warning LEDs which is not operational at the moment.
I have been told by a mechanic (not a trusted one but was enough to got me thinking) that all the GTIs are supposed to have the water and petrol indicators under the rev clock next to each other and a "shift-up" indicator above the warning LEDs.
If you know a website or similar I can find some info about the factory fitted dash according to model & year please let me know.
Kind regards

While I am not a Expert, I do know that the Various styles changed the layout of the gauges over the years.
A Photo of your current dash would be nice.
I do know that on the back of it there should be a year sticker on it, and the Mylar circuit-foil.

Placement depends on the year.

Mine is a 1.8 GTI

To my knowledge which is small and only regards tintops, the binnacle with the shift up indicator/fuel economy gauge, and the water and petrol gauge side by side are fitted to the 1.8 gti, not the 1.6..

the clocks with economy gauge are fitted on 83 gtis and campaigns, not sure when it changed but don't think it would be on an 87

Re:
You are right mate. Also it seems I'm missing the indicator needle for water temp as well. These are the things you realise after you buy the car.WATERNAIR said
I could be wrong but the switches to the left of the clocks are in the wrong order
Are there anybody who can post a few pics for the correct switch arrangement for a 1987 cabriolet gti?
Also any idea what is this LED for above the fog light switch?
Cheers

The blank should be at the bottom.
It is probably for an old alarm or even a fake one

Remove stereo and then push the switches out from the back.
They have 2 spring clips either side.
The hazard switch can be argumentative but be careful with it because if it comes open you may have tiny springs all over the place
