Old ones are top.
New at bottom (rebuilt after removing the blue faces) and changing mileage
Will these be ok to use as they are, or do I need to bastardise the two together? I presume they are from a later model.
Thanks

They will fit but not sure if everything will work, you could plug them in and see what happens when you drive it.
Glad you got rid of those coloured faces as they are a bit naff…

Are you sure about that? My 84 Gti Cabriolet has the top set of clocks, mind you the change up light doesn't work, its possible they're not original.mark1gls said
The bottom set are out of a cabriolet Gti as it does not have the instant MPG gauge and change up gear light as it's not fitted to cabriolets…..

Write the information down by pin location number 2 is ground, and 14 is power in.
Now do the same for the replacement clocks.
If they match up save for the upshift light then you should be ok.
If they don't, as you find some are in a different location, then your going to have to look at the connector on your car. The connector is numbered as you look at it 1 is on the right and 14 is on the left. The connector has 2 clips on each end. Release the clips and your connector will open up allowing you to move the wires around to the proper place for your new clocks.
I would also take a 9V battery and test your water gauge and fuel gauge to verify that they work. I have a how-to in the Archive section that shows you how to do it. Better to know if they work before you find out they don't.
Add a Piece of electrical tape pin side of the plastic tongue to tighten it to the connector, and splice in a ground on the pin2 (brown) connector side and run it straight to the X on the cluster bracket to frame with a sheet metal screw.
Yep there are how-to's in the archive section under Briano's helpful hints.

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.
