“The five cars that increased most in 2015 were the Fiat Dino (up 113 per cent), Lamborghini Miura (62 per cent), Peugeot 205 (44 per cent), Land Rover Defender (43 per cent) and Volkswagen Golf Mk1 GTi (43 per cent).
Classic car values have soared by 161 per cent over five years and by 467 per cent over ten years, according to the Knight Frank Luxury Index report by Andrew Shirley.
They also enjoyed a 17 per cent surge in the year to March, against an average rise in the value of luxury goods of 5 per cent — ahead of wine (9 per cent), coins (6 per cent), watches and jewellery (4 per cent each), and even diamonds (1 per cent).
A 1957 Ferrari 335 S Scaglietti sold for a record £24.7 million in Paris in February. But everyday classics are a less risky investment — from Mark 1 Golf GTis to MGB Roadsters, Land Rover Defenders, VW Camper vans, or Italian cars built in the Seventies (albeit in good condition).”

I had a mk2 8 valve that had power steering and dealer fit aircon. I scrapped it after it got hit and runned taking out the drivers door, sill and wing. I swapped the door and wing then it got rear ended at traffic lights. Really, I should have got a sill on it, a rear panel and some paint. But at the time, it was an old damaged car and i had responsibilities.
On the other side I have some cool stuff that I bought when it was worth nothing that's worth a bit now, things I don't want to sell.

I'm the same Adam, what I'm worried about is that the prices rise so much that it prices people out the market, I.e if people just buy them to invest they aren't going to be the people that come to shows (and camp) more importantly our show! It'd be such a shame - but it's good if you wanna retire I guess!

I'm 35 and can remember when bay windows were shunned for not being a real vw van, beetles were still cheap and mk1/2 escorts were still being driven sideways on roundabouts by 18 year olds. That kind of money might be where we're heading.

I would have been the 18 year old driving sideways on the roundabouts if you were six months old and it was an Escort Mk1 2dr Tarmac rally prepared in Daytona yellow and black.
I thought that was the only way to get round a roundabout!
Still do sometimes but I of course wished I still owned it now.

something i did think of recently was the effect of many governments and manufactures wanting to scrap combustion engines fairly soon. this will have a knock on effect eventually leading the vehicles to be worth nothing. especially if there is no fuel to put in them.
