new cables ?
they have come with no ends on, you have to make them your self. loop and then crimp.
Has anybody used theses ? I have an old cable to use as a pattern for length, but want really to try and get tension correct

Useless unless you know what length you need.
There's two different lengths year depending.
I supply my cables in either length.
Plus you got to crimp them up properly otherwise they can pop undone once you close the roof up.
Old cables stretch a bit too.

Cabriolet DIY side tension cables | Volkswagen Owners Club Forum
After buying 2 sets from 2 different suppliers off ebay and both sets rusting and breaking in less than a year I made my own and did not bother with the brass chain or tubing for the cable as I bought stainless steel wire already covered in plastic.
Place is not far from my work so was able to pop in and get the right width but I can't remember which one I bought as it was about 3 years ago and the cables are still going strong.

If you have a spring in the C pillar then you need the shorter cable.
There is another guide on the web which I also read but I can't find it at the moment.
