I've got Hotuning coilovers on my MK2 GTI and recently put 185x60x14s back on after running 195x50x15s. The difference is like chalk and cheese, much nicer now.
- 1978 MK1 GL 2 door with 2.0 16v ABF, twin 40's, Recaros, lots of suspension mods. I'll get it back on the road one day.
- 1991 MK2 GTI 4 door. Was my daily doing over 1000 ks a week until it hit a truck. RIP. Got another one now and loving it!
- 1991 MK2 GTI 4 door for parts.
- 1998 Seat Cupra + another used as a donor for the MK1
- 1999 Passat Wagon. Needs street cred but at least it's a manual.

It's the drop plates for the rear I'm not too sure about.
I started a thread asking about them but it must of been done to death as there were no replys.
Comfy coilovers are possible but expensive.
Also if to gain comfy you have to let the shock travel more then clearances could become an issue.

Why do you need drop plates for the rear ?
To even the car out?
If you used raised mounts at the front, the coilovers would be say adjusted half way down the height adjustment. where as the back would be fully wound down on the height adjustment.
Wouldnt that effect handling and the stroke of the shock?
I would of thought it would be better to fit raised mounts and drop plates together, then fit coilovers and set them both the same front and rear (adjustment for the height)
The raised mounts give you another 1 1/2" of free travel on the strut.
So if you have coilovers that allow a 75mm drop then fitted raised top mounts adjust the coilovers back up 1 1/2" for the extra comfort but the rears are still wound down to -75mm.
If you fitted drop plates that give you an extra 1 1/2" (not sure how much drop plates give you) then you could adjust the tears the same. You have then gain comfort on the front and back.

The threads I found there were split opinions on the drop plates.

I know there are cheap brands that have damping adjustment and I would like to avoid those.
I doubt I would fit drop plates though.
Thanks for replies
