Im hopefully picking up a new head next weekend and swapping over my cam etc. into that to hopefully solve the coolant burning issue. I will also take this head to be inspected properly at an engine shop. Once fitted with yet another headgasket kit with more new headbolts I will pray to the engine gods that my problem is solved. Should It turn out that the block is warped and the problem persists then I will be forced to sell my golf and buy a something less infuriating like a GeeWiz….

If its not boiling up or loosing water I'd find something else to worry about.

I wouldn't have thought the damage on the rocker cover flange is an issue. New gasket and gasket sealer should take care of it I would have thought

It was more the scraping to the insides of the hydrolic lifters which i thought might have scrapped it I managed to go back to the engine shop and they said I should take it off and let them pressure test it etc. or put an additive in because the coolant loss isnt actually that much so its probably only a slight crack or something. Although Im against putting additives in for this sort of thing as it seems a bit of a bodge!

They need a good clean-up, a new trumpet (one was damaged and a new but small one was supplied as a spare), a new gasket set, a throttle linkage, trumpet securing parts, a dust cover and probably loads of other parts which are all staring to look worryingly expensive
Still need to get to the bottom of the headgasket issue before i even start thinking about fitting these!

Looking forward to getting them fitted
That looks a pretty comprehensive service kit, I was looking at one that was £40 for both carbs but not sure it included as much as that so might end up paying £60 now
Its the cost of the little things like studs, cover plates and trumpets that are missing which is going to make them yet more expensive
