Picked up my mate Terry and took him to Benisa where he had some work done on his 1993 American Rivage. Drove to Cap St Martin and had a long 4 hour lunch with wine beer and 4 courses inc huge paella all for 45€ for two! Drove to the light house and took this picture of Sportline note new spots! http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag19/Paulgilbert56/imagejpg1_zps16d61820.jpg

1992 Red 'Sportline' LHD from France now in Spain,

My Cabby had it's 24th Birthday on the 08/08/1990 so was due the MOT.
Here in Austria your given four months grace period before the brown stuff hits the fan but I still think like I'm back home.

Anyhow put him in for his MOT yesterday and picked him up (Scrat is his name) tonight.
He sailed through with no 'Advisors' which is the 3rd time in a row and I've only had him three years.

What he didn't know was as a Birthday Present I'd ordered a complete new set of boots.  :)
I Stayed with Dunlops because the BBS Sportline wheels I bought from Germany last year I found really very good for there price. (Dunlop Sport FastResponse)

But he's got the 'Dunlop Sport BluResponse 195/50r15 82v' (which came to market last year) and wow do they feel good!
He's seems fairly happy as well.

Four tyres fitted and balanced (not by a quick fit type of company) but a workshop who really take their time and do care about my cars, especially this one.

I paid 288.00 GBP including VAT, which I guess is a lot more than you pay in the UK but the cost of living is much higher here and so to are the salaries.

Anyhow, I'm well chuffed as he is but as I'm a touch over 50, these boots should out see my lifetime as I drive about 2K a year and check the tyre pressures every 14 days.

Good news on the 'MOT', I think that's a good price for the tyres considering the brand, sure it would be same or more in UK. - unless you are saying they were Ł288 each!

I can still remember my MK1 failing its MOT in the early 90's due to tyres and it cost me Ł320 for the VAG dealer to replace all four Pirelli P600's. If I compare my salary then to now it works out at the equivalent of Ł1500!

Thanks Rich!
Na that price was for the full set mounted and balanced.
Funny thing is the steering feels lighter than on the old boots and a little less road noise, or that could just be my imagination.

Anyhow, it's a national holiday here today.
So as a special treat I'm now off to the garage to give him a good and proper jet wash and as the weather will be not to hot I will spend the weekend giving him a real good polish!

Does it get better than that.  :)

The Campaign passed her MOT, the drivers door handle snapped as I picked her up so to celebrate I started to strip her and start the rebuild .... this is going to take some time to get back on the road me thinks. (I spent about an hour and half just on the drivers door)

Fixed rattle at the front of the Sportline after checking the brakes, suspension, radiator, grille,  and just about everything else!! Found it was the indicator light fittings in the front bumper! Drove 8km to El Poblets beach with the hood down 30 degrees. Saw 7 yes 7 other MK 1 convertibles, 6 Spanish 1 Dutch. much arm waving was had! Cheers

Parts have been delivered from VW Heritage to me here in Spain, thanks guys, and will fit when it cools down. Have been informed my special hi flow aluminium radiator from Aaron Radiators in Crystal Palace is on is way to Spain too! All the parts are for my LHD Sportline here which is not a GTI, but everyone thinks it is!! Cant wait to fit the parts, might fit an oil cooler kit too as it has be 43 degrees here this week and the little red Sportline gets very ho!!

Got up early at the hotel nursing a hangover, cleaned Martha the mk1, showed her at Edition 38 then gunned it back to Dorset while being harassed by hundreds of bikes all kicking out from the moto GP at Silverstone , excellent show as allways though

Hi Andy it's been done in lincoln by the guys you mentioned  before lincoln autodiagnostics. Seem a nice bunch of old timers.. They have cut into the loom and repaired the 25 yrs of dodgy stuff.. but now looking at further parts such as clocks etc to remove need for dodgy dash light for indicators.. and red light swith for horn.. lol.. unique.  Wish I had the pics..
