I have a mk1 with an abf engine running on kjet
I was driving thw mk1 about today fine took it to my bros house, then when i left my bros house started the car(started fine) ticked over fine, but any time i pressed the accelerator its was running lumpy like when id put my goot down it would pick up speed anywhere near how it should(aswell as the running issue)
So i pulled over to turn the car off and then on agen and then when i tried starting it agen it wudnt start, like the battery was dead
So i got me old man to jump start me and it fired up fine, revved the engine on tick over and it sounded fine, so i went on my way and within seconds it was running lumpy agen, just got back home and it wont start agen,
Could a dud battery be the reason why it was running rough?

and do the usual mk1 fuel system checks, filler neck rust, rubbish in tank etc. also what fuel system have you fitted. mk1 gti tank and pump, or cabrio/scirocco lift pump and reservoir + gti pump? is the fuel accumulator fitted?

quick n dirty test for bulb and wire to fusebox is earth the blue spade connector near the battery live, if light comes on then you can rule dash and wiring out.
the issue is from the spade to the alternator, or the alternator itself :
