Plans were short-lived as the kind person who last fitted brakes (who is a 'specialist') had kindly mullered the heads of the caliper bolts so I can't get them off
So that's another job I've got to pay the garage to sort unless anyone's got any bright ideas??

I had thought about cutting the rubbers back - was debating if it's an issue not to have them or not? Slowly coming to the conclusion not - or are they included in the kit anyway?

No worries. They're not the same as for a '90 MK2 16v by any chance? I think I have a set of those!
Or take them from your donor car

Might be. Not sure if they swapped to the mk3 style callipers for '90 spec.
I might have some in the loft (I know there're some callipers and carriers - it'd be weird if the slides weren't in) … I'll have a look and let you know.

Yours will have vw2 calipers so the mk2 16v ones are different but the slides might be the same

LOL - no that's safe, if for no other reason that the fronts on my tintop were a 'period' upgrade - from an early passat from memory? It was a kit that came out 'in the day' but only 2 were ever sold apparently! Found all this out when a garage was trying to replace the brake master cylinder when it was my now ex-wife's daily many years back - standard wouldn't fit - and they found out m-cylinder, servo, discs and calipers were all non-standard.
Anyway, maybe there's some compatible parts but I'm leaving that can of worms alone until I need to sort the brakes on the tintop!

Take it you can't hammer a smaller socket onto the bolts? Worked for me before.
They're cap heads so can't see that working. I'll wait and just get some new ones - the brakes are working so it's not too desperate

Today was a bag of mixed success. First off, I did the Auto Glym treatment on the roof.
I did take before and after shots, but as the sun was out with the latter but not the first they don't look any different but it is cleaner! May need another scrub but I'm happy for now. I've not got it wet yet after proofing it so the 'cool' beading shot will wait for another time.
I then set about ripping out the clocks and switches etc to get behind the dash so I could change the wiper stalk to see if a new one would get my MFA working. Sadly not. However, I've changed the original dash light bulbs for 2W ones so it should be a little brighter. I'm going to put a how-to together too for any newbs that need it.
I replaced the bulb in the NS repeater as realised that didn't work.
I've also sussed my fuel leak I thought I'd fill up brim-full with the roof down and back seat out so I could keep an eye on the top of the tank and sure enough when I brimmed the tank, fuel starting seeping out from under the sender cover so it is the O-ring that's the problem. Happy days - no need to drop the tank out
Finally, a Sportline selfy for no particular reason! lol

as for the calipers instead of ruining the boots trying to undo the sliders why dont you hammer a spline bit into the end, always worked for me in the past. gsf sell new sliding bolts
