so this is my plan (over a few years):
im going all in stripped blasted any rust issues sorted. then wanted to go 2.0 Tfsi from mk5 gti inc air con traction abs ect. all axles beams ect blasted and powdercoated. 256mm front brake conversion g60 rear with aftermarket pedal box with built in master and servos.
so im thinking 1st thing to do is find a donor car (hopefully cheap around 2k) that say cat C/D rear end shunt or something like. keep all the bits i need sell the rest and buy my mk1 with the money i get back from part of the donor.
ok now i know there is an 'of the shelf mount kit for 20vT abf ect but i cnt seem to find many Tfsi builds in the uk

also ecu wise i know im going to need to stay standard due to the fuel injection systems so where or who could decode it for me??
then theres the wiring issue ???? any input welcome
thanks guys

seems you like a challenge then?!

The mk5 engine is a fair sized engine, so most convertions have binned the aircon etc to make sure it will fit in the engine bay.
would be great to see this happen.

if you use qpeng or whatever then you'll not have to worry about this side of things, but then afaik you'll have to bin all the nice parts of the injection system and basically convert it back to a standard 20v lump, unless things have moved on recently.
if you decide to just go oem management without anything else the wiring is basically the same as with mk4 golf conversion, except the extra coding required to map out all the other module checks and so on, this is now pretty easy these days as the knowledge is out there. I've done 3 MK5 engine looms so far, if you like I'll dig out the details of the guiys so you can ask em direct what they needed to do to make the ecu happy

the ones ive done are the r32 ecu which have same plugs as the mk4 dbw, the tfsi has different plugs but the wiring is still the same just a case of match up where the pins come from.
the main hurdles are the VSS signal which comes from the clocks via can-bus, this i think may need coding out or you need a can-bus adaptor module. plus the rev counter, on the r32 ecus i added the mk4 pin into the correct position and i believe that works ok, just need the usual rev counter adaptor as per mk4 ecu. the alternative I found out is an adaptor to convert the alternator signal:
