Better gear ratios from a 4 speed box?
I have a 1983 1.3 model with a 1.6 carb engine fitted. It revs like mad in 4th and rather than the drama of a 5 speed conversion i was wondering of any of the 4 speed boxes had a 'long' 4th gear for better motorway type work?
Cheers!

The gear ratio guide also includes 4 speed boxes (well, 4 of them, there might be other ones too). The 3+E box will give you a wider spread of ratios and might be what you're after.
I can't understand why your 4 speed box revs like mad though - since it can't be the original 1.3 gearbox (since they are physically completely different) then it is 99% likely to be the one with the engine. Maybe its just that you perceive it to be revving a lot, since these days almost all cars have 5 speeds, not 4.
Perhaps a 5 speed box (of which there is a large choice) would be a better swap to do. Not too complicated either.

I'm more used to aircooled vw engines to be honest. I'll have a look at actual revs/speed tomorrow.
Cheers!
