Polo GT with carbs, will my distributor fit/work?

You will also need the ignition amp and loom too, and this plugs in between the distributor and the ignition coil

Obviously on my 1.1 the coil and the set of contact points in the distributor create the spark, so I figured if the distributor physically fits then it would work :dontknow: The 1.1 dizzy has vacuum advance and as I understood fits 1.3 engines.
Is it the case that is physically doesn't fit the GT head??

iirc the points ign dizzy is the wedge type which is the same as the 16v FEI dizzy or pug 1.9 GTI. the polo gt dizzy is pin fitting if so you want a hydro tappet polo or mk2 golf 1.3 as above.
you can run the polo gt dizzy usign a mk2 16v FEI ecu, though i guess ign map wont be ideal. a pug 1.9 gti dizzy would fit too but again not sure how suitable.
the good news is the polo gt dizzy is worth a fair stack of money to polo owners as its specific to the gt managment. the 1.3/1.4 spi dizzy isnt the same and it seems a lot of gt conversions are stuck with the incorrect spi dizzy for whatever reason

I never needed it as I used the early engine with a KR dizzy like rubjonny mentioned, and I know for a fact the engine it came off was very good 8)
Edit; Come to think of it, I have the dizzy that you need! I'm afraid I'd have to ask a bit of money for that though, but the GT dizzy you can have for the price of postage

Phataz1 - if you have the dizzy from the mk2 polo/golf 1.3 that I need please PM with a price posted.
If anyone has the loom and ignition module that would be a bonus?

Thanks for the replies. It sounds like i'll have to source the bits. I assume I dont need a different coil?

just make sure the coil you get matches the leads and cap as the early ones have different ends to the later ones

There is then one longer wire that is brown but sleeved in black. Where does this go? To the battery negative, or earth, maybe a sensor???? :dontknow:

I now have all the bits I need. On the loom there is obviously the black plug that connects to the dizzy. There are the green and black wires that I believe go to the coil negative and positive respectively.

It would originally go straight to the battery earth clamp, but any earth will do I had my battery in the boot so I just earthed that wire to the chassis
