installing fog lights
I'm trying to connect some extra lights to my golf…Ive worked out that the lights would use 5A at worst case scenario and I'd like to know if the wires used for the parks can handle another 5A on top of what ever those use already.
I'd like for the new lights to be on when ever the parks are (or when the light switch is in the first position)
Any info would be appreciated

To be clear you're suggesting i put in another switch to control them separately? I don't want it to be on all the time just when the parks are which allows them to be on when the cars off (if that makes any sense)

The switch for your rear fog should be a two stage one though so its possible you could just wire into that. I think only the GX had front fogs as standard so its unlikely there will be any other wiring for them about though.

Yes, the switch is a 3 position switch (off, front fogs, front/rear fogs) on a Mk1 Golf (well series 2 at least, can't remember what the series 1 switch does). But personally, I'd want to be able to switch the rears on without the front ones coming on, a bugbear of mine on many cars. Maybe there is a reason they're all wired like this though?
In any case, however you arrange the switch, you need to do it so they come on only with sidelight and dipped beams and not with main beams or when the lights are off.

paul re: the fogs i assumed its wired up the way it is so if its only light fog and/or during the day you can use the fronts only to see under the fog without blinding people behind you. if its foggy enough for you to need the rear fog, you'll need the fronts too regardless!

The car as is in roadworthy condition, it's the connecting of more lights to the harness which i wasnt sure of and as pearcestu pointed out it would make more sense fitting another switch.
Appreciate all the input

if so then yes easier to just add a new switch and wiring, run that to your front fogs
