I reckon 5w30 would just pour past my aged seal/rings/valve guides, so I used to use 10w40 (the green one in Halfords), now use 10w/40 Diesel oil (the gold one in Halfords!) on the advice of a couple of guys off here.
If you're using the car through the winter, and you service it twice a year, I'd seriously consider using 5W/30 in the winter and 10W/40 in the summer. 5W/30 is thicker when cold, than 10W/40 is when warm, so it won't go past the seals. But it will make a difference if this year's winter was anything like the last two.
