Black L Reg Sportline Cab project
It was love at first sight!
I mean dont get me wrong, the coil overs were crap and rock solid, all the interior bits had been replaced with chrome aftermarket tat, horrible tiny steering wheel, serious rust issues around the filler neck, all lights were aftermarket, had had a re-spray with the glass in, which was a shame as the job was really good, but has masking tape lines which look horrible, pretty much no brakes, small slash in the roof, leaking electric roof piston…..163,000 miles on the clock……but I didnt care, I could see a really good solid car hidden (really well) underneath. Solid engine, original interior seats etc and late 93 car so one of the last. So I said if you ever sell I will buy…a year later I bought her :-) And then the work began.
Stripped her out inside, cleaned all the carpets/seats, visited funkstar and got loads of original bits and bobs, the rest I purchased off ebay and started to work. Replaced the leaking electric roof piston (funkstar) replaced the sagging parcel shelf with huge speakers in it for a perfect one without said holes (funkstar), changed all the window winders back to original/indicators/gearknob/steering wheel etc etc. My plan was to get her sorted enough for the winter so I could drive her, and then get to work properly next summer, try and clean up the paintwork etc. However after the first downpours of autumn, I discovered the car was leaking in the boot….all over the electrics, and suddenly my plan to get her on the road ended, I borrowed a friends garage and decided to start stripping her out again and start the re-furb in earnest, with the new plan to have her back on the road by March next year.
So she is currently waiting for a full glass out re-spray at the end of November(Frankies paintshop in Bucks), along with some welding work (repair panels purchased off chubnutt on ebay) and also going to drop out the fuel tank and flush it out/respray etc. When she comes back after around 4 weeks going to replace all the brake parts/suspension parts/wishbones etc etc etc……….then new hood is going on along with refurbed wheels (pristine wheels) and brand new continental tyres all round. Cant wait to get cracking, so for now thought I would just post a thread and introduce myself , Daniel (and Gertie), get some pics up and then add to this over the next few Months so I can look back and wonder where it all went horribly wrong…or hopefully very right :-) Its been really nice chatting to fellow enthusiasts on this site, and I have found it so helpful as a resource that I dont know what I would do without it or its members!!! So will attempt to post various pics now from the day I got her, to her current, very sorry state, and hopefully back to her former glory in the spring. Hope you find it of interest. Thanks :-)
