Youd have the benefit of one choke per port which is better for power as theres no interference with pressure waves from one getting into another.
If theyre sized right for the engine capacity and set up correctly then theyll only use as much fuel as your right foot demands and theyll give the best results you could reasonably expect from a carbed setup.
The single dcoe setup will have the side issue of needing a siamesed inlet manifold with the hassles that entails, forget all that and fit the twins if youre dead set on doing the conversion.

Ebay for used, webcon or dealer of theirs for new.
45's will be too large, 40's will be closer but id speak to Webcon ( weber suppliers) regarding what jetting youd need to get you up and running.
Be aware that on a rolling road session these would almost certainly be altered to get them running their best.
Pricewise, i have no idea what these go for these days.
bear in mind you may also use dellorto carbs ( very similar to weber dcoe).

Don't forget you'll need a new fuel pump, filter, and pressure regulator and the correct linkage for the carbs you choose.
If your looking for the twin carbs new, you won't get much change from a grand!
Twincarbs aren't easy to set up on an 8v golf as they are just about touching the fire wall on back of the engine bay, not good for getting a syncrometer in.
The single carb route doesn't mean siamesed manifolds, mine is the same basic design as the stock one bot has a 40 DHLA dellorto attached.
The manifold is a lynx M150, bought second hand from ebay, rare, but still out there.
You could try this place : http://www.racekit.co.za/page5.htm
Hope this helps dude
Projekt Frustration :
White 1991 Clipper. Lowered over polished zender rims, Single 40 dellorto on lynx manifold, kent cam, full stainless 'zorst / manifold, powerflex bushed and braced. Not the fastest car, but sounds super nice!
Still going after 12 years… never said it was a quick fix! Time is not my friend.

my cab is a 1.6gl with pieburg at the moment. it has a ss 421 manifold and 2in jetex system. standard everything else. i want to upgrade the leads and coil not sure which ones are best.
what kind of power doyou think my car would push with the twin 40 as opposed to a single 40.
any ideas

It pains me to say this As I love carbs, but you'd be waisting a massive amount of money for very little gain.
I'm running the Dellorto on mine purely by chance, my pooburg broke and the conversion poped up on e-bay… fate?? I also run a kent gs2 fast road cam.
I don't think i've spent more than 350 green on my engine, I've been lucky.
Best bet would be the direct replacement weber carb, a replacement preformance filter element and a good service with top quality parts.
If power is the desired result, then a 16v or 20vT is the way forward.
Other than that, decent suspension and brakes will help the car go quicker if that make any sense??

so with the weber direct replacement there is improvement to be had then. it makes sense as i dont want a powerhouse just something that pulls more than it does at the moment. with the weber replacement can you fit on the same k and n filter which sits on top of the carb.
