Newbie need advice
Been checking out the forum for ages and have finally bitten the bullet and bought a 1.8 Clipper (photos soon).
I drove the car home to Sussex from Cambridgeshire via Suffolk to pick up some ATS Cups and travelled 270 miles in the process. Unfortunately, having picked up my new wheels the car started to stall when slowing down and stopping at junctions and finally it started kangarooing and finally refused to go. I was sure that the car was overheating as the fan hadnt come on however the AA man got the fan working fairly easily and checked the wiring of the fan and sensors and found no problems. The car made it home (170 miles) without problems until I got close to home then it started to cut out again coming up to junctions and roundabouts. The next day it did the same after only a few miles and then started kangarooing again.
Im a little confused as the car behaves impeccably on fast roads but is a nightmare in traffic.
Its a Pierburg Carbed 1.8 automatic Clipper with 80k on the clock.
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks, Andy

Really simple fix for me, might not be the same for you but worth a try.
Simply changed the spark plugs for nice new ones and bingo. I think it was the fact that under load the weak spark was being put out by the fuel.
Worth a try for a tenner.. Fingers crossed for you.

Have you checked the in line plastic filter, these can clog up too.
I had the opposite problem with my pierberg, it went loopy and started running at 3000 rpm. I am not a lover of them, mine hit the bin after the high speed running incident! I run a totally different carb and manifold now, It runs brilliant, although fuel consumption ain't too good!
Good luck with the car mate
Projekt Frustration :
White 1991 Clipper. Lowered over polished zender rims, Single 40 dellorto on lynx manifold, kent cam, full stainless 'zorst / manifold, powerflex bushed and braced. Not the fastest car, but sounds super nice!
Still going after 12 years… never said it was a quick fix! Time is not my friend.

Been running it over the last week and its really puzzzling me. One day it will run like a pig, cutting out at low speed and refusing to tickover, next day, sweet as a nut, ticks over lovely and no problems at all. Next day, runs like a pig again :dontknow: . Brilliant at cruising speed and beyond but slow speeds (its an auto) just on and off. In this respect doesnt sound like a leccy issue? The inline filter is a large metal one from a GTI i think?

The carb engine uses a suction pump on the engine block with a small inline filter between the pump and the carb in the engine bay
Injection is a push pump in the tank and runs in a loop so it would have no problem filling the filter canister.
You can pick up the bits to remove the filter at any car spares place. I'd get shut of the metal canister and get the system back to how it should be.
