mate car needs help, non starter
she drove it home from work one night, she said it had a little splutter but it was all over so quickly, she never thought anything off it.
the next morning (and still the same today) the car turns over well but every so many turns it backfires through the carb (unignited fuel). but shows absolutely no sign of even attempting to fire up.
after changing the items below we checked there was a good spark and there is
we have changed,
rotor arm
dizzy cap
all leads
sparkplugs
and cleaned out the carb. (was very clean to start with)
and still exactly the same
any ideas????????????

i marked it and adjusted it while turning her over, still nothing.
it just changed ho frequently the car backfired (again unignited) through the carb. so i set it back to where it was.
could the cambelt have slipped? it looks ok, teeth are all there and it seems tight!

try the condensor mate, sometimes these go, have you checked the points are fine and gapped properly, had a similar problem with mine a few months ago
Hiya mate, not hi-jacking the thread! Just to ask Dub_Boy, how do I check my points are gapped properly, are these right inside the Dizzy?
Mine's a 1.1 '84 plate.
I have a suspicion it could be my points that's the cause of my car not firing. But then again it might not be as I don't think i'm still not getting a spark from the coil.
Thanks for any help.
Sorry whatalotafun! Not Hi-jacking!
Cheers, Josh

but he's already checked and there's a good spark? And he's fiddled with the timing too.
