I have set my husband up an account here on your site, you will see why in a sec .
I have recently told my hubby to get rid of his Mk2 Gti as I needed the space in the garage (needless to say he was not happy) I needed to persuade him, so asked him would he like another "tinkering car" for his 30th Birthday. He replied "yes a Mk1", now you see why I have created this account lol, I need to start looking for a Mk1 as his Birthday is in 6months!
Where is the best place to start looking for one of these cars? He wants a reasonable one thats needs a little repair. I wouldnt say a "Project Car" as the definition of project to you guys will be completely different to my husbads ability. (he likes tinkering not full on 2nd job lol)

Please read the buyers guide though as 25 year old + cars can suffer some serious rust issues. I looked at 15 when I bought my first one… just to know what I was buying. Not saying you should go that far but do look around and if you yourself aren't mechanically minded take someone that is.. just to be safe

Before you make a purchase, as said above, have a look at the buyers guide or buy yourself this book,
http://www.veloce.co.uk/shop/products/productDetail.php?prod_id=V4188&prod_group=Cars%20Vans%20&%20Trucks
I've had a read of it and although it also covers Mk2's as well, Its well written by 2 renowned authors and could be the best £9.99 you spend this Christmas!!!
