pd240 project. Updated10/12/2012 daily updates

hi
i am danny (not dany) from Manchester. today i bought my first mk1 golf
1982 3 door non sunroof 1.1.
the car is in need of restoration and hopefully with a lot of welding wire and gas be a very nice looking mk1 golf as soon as possible.
i do currently have a vw golf mk4 pd which i have spent a lot of time and money on. including engine conversions and also resprays so i will hopefully be able to do all the work myself.
here she is i paid a measly 235 pounds for her.
will have fresh pics of the work carried out on Saturday when i next see her as she is currently at my granddads farm.
also is it possible for a moderator to change my username as i made a spelling mistake (should be danny_sims)

how it all started

i did not think i would be able change it as its always the same on every forum. it will have to be what it is.
in terms of the grass (it has been stood fr ten years and only has 60k on the clock.
the last log book issued was 1991. which is the same year i was born.
the updates will keep coming.

first question for you guys.
when you buy the replacement sills are they full sills or sill covers? if the majority are cvers then where can i get full sills from.
also is there any places that sell replacement wings etc at good prices and most importantly good quality.
and thanks for the welcomes?

Most sills you see tend to be proper replacements, not over sills, saying that mine still had a proper one stuck over the old one!

Try Crazyquiff for the wings, he should do those and the sills

new door collected danny sims mk1 tintop

well the first update.
today i drove down to prestatyn wales to collect a drivers door for the mk1 golf.
funnily enough the door is the same colour. haha would not happen if i needed one in colour but thats how it goes.
the new door has a dent in but its very solid with no rot.
tommorrow i will hopefully be getting the interior out of the car and then i can make sure the floor is 100% sound.
i took quite a few photos today of the mk1 as i had a little bit of time. (excuse the cat i think its found a new home on the farm.

update 20/11/11

hi
got a couple of hours on the car today.
got the following done.
both doors removed.
seats and carpets out and most of the interior.
both quater glass removed.
both front wings off
bumper off
all hoovered up inside and ony found 3 small holes that need welding
spare wheel well slightly
firewall where throttle cable enters
drivers rear footwell. i can just fit a screwdriver through the first skin but under neath is solid.
underlay was a little wet at the front. so i have removed that to the bin.

i also picked two replacement front wings up from paul c in wirral. will get these prepped at work this week.

few pics from todays efforts.

well i nipped up to the farm this morning for half an hour before work.
i attempted to remove the windscreen but i broke it on the last corner.
on an upside i am now borrowing a small sandblaster. so i can get the car back to bare metal before i paint it.
i have also got a mk4 dashboard heater motor and also the reinforcement bar so i can try before i decide whether mine will fit.
the conversion is going to be so hard and tae so much time to complete.
